Did you known that there are edible flowers that can enhance your meals? Certain flowers have been used for centuries to enhance the appearance of meals as well as to incorporate the meal with different flavors. Not only do you get a different flavor and texture, some of the flowers actually have medicinal properties.
Tips on Choosing Flowers to Garnish Your Meals
When choosing flowers to garnish your meals, it is important that you remember to use them as soon as possible, after they are harvested. It is vital that you use only the petals of the flower as other parts of the flower will be bitter and can make you ill. Only choose a source for picking in which you know that the flower has not been chemically sprayed. Make sure that you can identify the flower correctly as some flowers are poisonous.
These flowers can be added as a garnish for soups, salads, deep fried or even pickled. Some can be even made into sugar or pancakes. The flower that is pictured is the Chrysanthemum. It is an edible flower and comes in a wide variety of colors. The taste of this flower ranges from mild and peppery to a cauliflower taste.
Other edible flowers include the Marigold, the Sunflower, the Day Lily, the Hibiscus, the Violet, the Nasturtium, the Rose, and the Scented Geranium. The scented Geranium that is Citronella scented is not edible. There are many other flower varieties that are edible.
Chrysanthemums can be added as a garnish to the top of your sushi or sashimi. If you should happen to use the bright yellow petals it will invigorate your digestive system.
The next time you are having a get together try using some edible flowers to enhance the look and taste of your meal.

I LOVE this idea!!!
This is fabulous information! I love the look of flowers anywhere! Thank you so much for sharing this.
Very interesting to find out that you can add flowers to your meals!
I have always wanted to try adding flowers to some of my dishes. The appearance that give is amazing, although I have yet to do it. I want to wait until the younger ones get old enough to understand the difference between safe and unsafe plants. Also adding them to drinks {especially water} is a fun thing I would like to try too. I have seen where you add herbs, flowers, and berries and make ice cubes to add to drinks-really gives that “Wow!” factor and tastes good from what I hear too.
Thank you for sharing, and reminding me that I really want to do this!
This is such a great idea. I have to give it a try.
