The Powerful Punch of Hemp Hearts- A Review

Those who are looking for alternative choices in healthy living often resort to changing their diet to incorporate more organically-grown food, rather than food that has been genetically modified. GMO foods are commonly found in many kitchens, and can include foods such as; bread, tomatoes, fruit, vegetables, fish as well as meat.

Health-conscious people might already be aware of some of the products found in a health food store because they shop there regularly for products that will aid in restoring their health and give them more vitality than GMO foods because of the natural nutrient content as compared to food that is laden with pesticides and other harmful chemicals.

I, myself, over the years, have used many organic products and was quite thrilled when asked to do a product review of Hemp Hearts. Hemp Hearts are produced, manufactured and distributed by Manitoba Harvest and are basically raw-shelled hemp seed. The raw-shelled hemp seed or Hemp Hearts are shelled and packaged daily and remain fresh until they are all consumed.

Here is the package that they came in;

Hemp Hearts can be eaten plain, in cereal, or added to a salad. The health benefits that are derived by eating Hemp Hearts is enormous as they are 100% natural nutrition, and are a balanced source of protein, essential fats and nutrients that your body needs. Hemp Hearts aid in promoting preventative health and wellness for those who are obese, diabetic, constipated, have high cholesterol, battling depression, have high blood pressure, struggle with Celiac disease, have hyperactivity disorders, are on carb-reduced diets, are pregnant, as well as lactating mothers.

Hemp foods contain protein, fiber, omegas, as well as rare omegas that are not found in some of the other food/plant sources. Hemp seed is used to make hemp hearts, oil, powders, and hemp beverages.

Hemp hearts are very small in comparison to sunflower seeds and the taste is similar to flax seed. You can toss them in a salad or even eat them plain. I, in fact, had some both ways, first tasting them by themselves and then mixing them in a green salad topped with a little bit of Virgin olive oil. The salad was delicious with a slightly, nutty flavor.

The vitamins and nutritional content found in Hemp Hearts include;

– Omega 3
– Omega 6
– Phytosterols
– Amino Acids
– B Vitamins
– Vitamin C & E
– Iron
– Carotene
– Calcium
– Potassium
– Magnesium

Manitoba Harvest came about in the early 1990’s as its founders formed the Manitoba Hemp Alliance. The company itself was formed in 1998 and started as a small company. Several legal battles took place to prior to its formation due to the fact that the industrialized use of hemp crops was illegal. After providing the government with a lot of evidence on the benefits of using this plant in manufacturing a product that aids in promoting better health and wellness, Manitoba Harvest evolved.

Many consumer events, demos, exhibits and educational venues were underway to educate the public in Canada, the USA, Europe and Asia about the nutritional value of using industrialized hemp as a organic food source.
