One of the good things about the end of the year is Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s the perfect time to spend with your family. There will be many new memories made and many special times. However, one of the things we don’t like to admit is how much the end of the year breaks our budget. Especially for me. I have one kid’s birthday in November and one in January. I start preparing for the end of the year during the summertime. Over the years I have found a few ways to save on my budget.
- Plan your menu and make a list. (Stick to it too! I know it’s hard but it’s worth it.)
- Clip coupons. You got your menu and list made now watch for Sunday coupons and clip them. You will be amazed at the amount you will save.
- Watch the stores promotions and ads. Keep an eye out for special coupons and promotions around Thanksgiving. Some stores offer a free turkey if you spend a certain amount of money. A free turkey can go a long way, especially when you are already spending the money buying other things.
- Price compare Find a store that price compares and do most of your shopping there. I know Wal-Mart is a big one. Honestly that’s a good tip for every day grocery shopping.
- Drink tea or water. Tea and Water is pretty cheap. I know it’s not a top choice (especially for me) but it will save a lot of money.
- Pick your side dishes wisely. I know some things may sound a lot better, but there are many options that are just as good but a whole lot cheaper!
- Lastly, ask for help. I know a lot of people don’t like to do this but you can ask a couple family members to bring a side dish. I bet you they will be more than happy to!
The end of the year doesn’t have to be stressful. The biggest way to save is to set a game plan and stick to it. Your wallet and belly will be happy in the end!
