First grade is an exciting time in your child’s life. They are more than likely reading and ready to pick almost any book they can! Check out this first grade book list that are perfect for any first grader that’s a moderate reader:

1. The Frog and Toad Collection Box Set (I Can Read Book 2)

This is a book that could be recommended time and time again because it’s so ideal for first graders. There are five stories in this book, so no one gets bored with their reading material options.

2. There Is a Bird on Your Head! by Mo Willems 

Want something fun for your 1st grader to read? This book is about Gerald and Piggie who have two completely different outlooks on life. This book is great for 1st graders because it’s interesting enough for them to read it out loud, to themselves, or have it read to them.

3.  Magic School Bus

This book series is great for first graders for many reasons, not only because it’s a classic, but because the stories are fun and educational. If your child is struggling to find reading interesting, then the Magic School Bus series may be ideal for them. There are also plenty of the books, so your 1st grader won’t run out of reading options anytime soon.

4. Ella the Elegant Elephant by Carmela D’Amico, Steven D’Amico

Stories about elephants are so much fun when you’re in first grade. Ella the Elephant has so much to say! Ella has started a new school but she encounters a bully along the way. There are so many lessons to be learned in this book and it’s a book that can be read over and over again.

5. Toes are To Tickle by Shen Roddie

Are you looking for something fun to read with your first grader? Try Toes are To Tickle. This is a fun and timeless book that takes them into the world of “feeling” and experiencing things about themselves. Although the book has a two year old star, a six or seven year old could master this book reading wise.

6. Diary of a Spider by Doreen Cronin

Ahh! Finally a book that has spiders in it, at the age of 6 or 7 kids love reading about spiders, animals, and anything that’s not about their brother or sister. This is truly the diary of a spider and he has a lot in common with your first grader. There you have it! Six books that you and your first grader will fall in love with. Remember that the best way to make your child a great reader is to keep reading. Make reading fun and exhilarating by introducing these 6 books to your child.
