Essential Oils to Use in the Baby Nursery
Many moms are aware of the various uses of essential oils throughout the home but never thought about keeping some essential oils for use in the baby nursery.
Lemon Essential Oil- Lemon essential oil has been used as a natural disinfectant in hospitals throughout Europe for decades. These oils are great for helping to ease anxiety and provide an overall sense of calm. By adding a few drops of essential oils to a diffuser in the nursery, you can help to cleanse the air. Also, you can add 3-4 drops of lemon essential oil to a damp washcloth to clean stuffed animals and wipe down surfaces for cleaning.
Rose Essential Oil- Rose essential oil may be costlier than other essential oils due to the fact that it takes so much of the rose plant to actually make the oil. In fact, it takes about 3,000 pounds of rose petals just to make one pound of the essential oil. Rose oil has been known to bring harmony to all of your senses because its high frequency has an effect on your emotional health as well as your physical health. The oil provides a calming effect for babies. Rose essential oil is also great for baby’s skin because of its gentle and soothing nature. To use on baby’s skin, add 2-3 drop of rose oil to pure aloe Vera.
Lavender Essential Oil- Lavender is an essential oil that is very calming and soothing. Add a drop of lavender oil to a cotton ball and place it close to wear you are rocking your baby. While they are being rocked, they will take in the relaxing scent. You can also combine 3-4 drops of the oil with sweet almond oil to create a massage oil for your baby. Baby massages are ideal for helping them settle down when they are upset or frustrated. Also, adding a few drops of lavender oil to a diffuser in the nursery can help your baby sleep well.
Sweet Orange Essential Oil- Sweet orange essential oil has an aroma that is tangy, sweet and fresh. Orange oil comes from the evergreen tree that produces dark green leaves, white flowers and orange colored fruit. These trees were once native to China but are now extensively grown throughout the United States. This essential oil helps babies to sleep at night because of its relaxing properties. It also provides the mind with warmth and happiness.
Chamomile Essential Oil- Chamomile essential oil has two types: Roman and German. Roman chamomile has an apple-like scent whereas the German chamomile has a straw-like scent. Roman oil is mainly cultivated in France, Hungary, Eastern Europe and Egypt whereas German oil is mainly grown in France, Germany, Morocco, Spain and Italy. Roman oil is used often for babies because it can be used to soothe a teething baby and also helps with gas, diarrhea and colic.
