With the holidays approaching, many people are busy looking for ideas for Christmas gifts. Ever year it gets harder to choose a gift that will not break the bank and still be appreciated. DIY crafts for Christmas presents are easy to make and some recycled materials can be made into ornaments. Some people choose just to purchase gift items for the children of family and friends. If you are a person that likes to buy for a lot of people, perhaps these tips will help you to choose something that does not cost as much as what you originally planned on purchasing. These are just a few ways to save money on Christmas presents.

When purchasing items for couples, choose something they can use for their home. A coffee machine, a small kitchen appliance, a new set of dishes, a wall clock or a home decor item. If you are buying for children, choose one main gift or several small items that they have on their list.

Some DIY crafts ideas for you are;

Recycle your Christmas cards from last year into gift tags for this year. Simply cut them with zig-zag scissors, write out the name and then tie them onto the present. Use comics or magazine pages to wrap gifts, rather than spending money on gift paper.

Have your children make some homemade ornaments using cardboard or manilla paper, glue and markers. Simple cut out the manilla or cardboard into a ball or ornament shape. Cover with tin foil and then glue lines as divisional sections. Get out the markers and have the children color the sections in with different colored markers. Tie a string or ribbon on them and then tie to a package or hang on the tree.

Another easy craft is candy cane reindeer. All you need is some candy canes, brown pipe cleaners, googly eyes and glue. Cut the pipe cleaner in half and twist around the bend in the candy cane. Glue on some googly eyes and a sparkly pompom for a nose and then either paste it on a gift or tie a string for hanging on a tree.

The plastic top lid of a coffee can or a powered juice lid, or a lid made of plastic that is round in shape can quickly turn into a crafty ornament for your tree. All you need is some tissue paper, glue, shellac, and some glitter. Cut out different colors of tissue paper, smooth glue over the surface of the lid, apply tissue paper, some glitter, and then let it dry. Once it is dried, shellac it and let it dry. Thread a ribbon thru the hole that you made with a hole punch. Then let the ornament adorn a present, or even the tree.

You can save money on gifting when you make a batch of homemade cookies. In fact, these are a nice and inexpensive way to gift friends. Make up several batches and place them in a nice, decorative tin and tie it up with a ribbon and a gift tag.

Hope you enjoy these DIY crafts and tips that will help you to save some of your money on your Christmas purchases!

    I love gifting homemade cookies. I usually spend 4 days in a row every year around the holidays just for baking cookies and people always love them. Great ideas you have there. I’ll have to work on some of the others.
