Those that celebrate Halloween often look for ideas to make the day a little different than just dressing up and going trick or treating. Mind you, my kids are a little old for shell out. However, they certainly remember how we used to put together some amazing costumes, each and every year. Like the year that my eldest daughter was Princess Jasmine, my son, Aladdin and the baby was Abu. Their costumes were handmade, their blonde and light brown locks sprayed with washable dye for the event. They had it down pat, from head to toe!
Or the time that they were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, costumes and shell was handmade too. That year even our pumpkin was a Ninja Turtle!
They have been dancers, ballerinas, clowns, painters, gardeners, witches, cartoon characters, monkeys, cats, grim reapers, vampires, Mrs Doubtfire, game characters, and perhaps some others that I forgot to mention.
When they were small, I used to go round trick or treating with them for hours. We start around 5.30, 6-ish and not return home until around 11.30. My youngest used to tell her Dad, Mom and I went all over the world trick or treating. Sure felt like that to me by the time the night was over, but man, we had so much fun, when Halloween arrived. Such wonderful memories.
For those of you with young children, finding simple ideas for a quick bite to eat before heading out trick-or-treating is sometimes hard. However, you can fill your children up on Mummy Hotdogs and Vampire Broth with Eyeball Ice Cubes.
Vampire Broth is simply a glass of cola topped with vanilla ice cream. Make sure not to fill the glass too full as it tends to get quite frothy. Add Eyeball Ice Cubes to the drink before serving. Eyeball Ice Cubes are simply a half of a grape, in which a raisin is inserted in the center and then placed inside an ice cube tray of water, then frozen.
As for the Mummy Hotdogs, these are pretty simple to make, all you need is hotdogs of your choice, whether it be all beef, chicken, turkey, or veggie. Mustard or ketchup and some Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. You can also add cheese to the center of the hotdogs if you wish. If adding cheese, make sure you split the hot dogs lengthwise and then add the cut cheese slices. Now that the hot dogs have been prepped, it is time to get the Pillsbury Crescent Rolls ready. Open the Pillsbury Crescent Rolls as usual, take each triangular section and cut it into little strips. Wrap and criss-cross the hot dogs, leaving a little space between each wrap. The idea is to wrap the hot dog just like an Egyptian Mummy. Make sure to leave a little part of the top end of the hotdog exposed, (this will be the face). Dot the mustard or ketchup on the facial area of the hotdog for eyes. Place Mummy Hotdogs on a baking sheet and bake them at 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Gobble down and then head outdoors and enjoy All Hallows Eve……..BOOO!!!!!!
