Winnie the Pooh Day
Winnie the Pooh Day is Jan 18th. Winnie the Pooh was the creation of A. A. Milne. He was a fictional teddy bear that many of us remember from our childhood.
The history behind this namesake is definitely interesting. Did you know that the bear was named after a Canadian black bear that was in a London zoo and hailed from Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Perhaps a more well known fact is that one of Winnie the Pooh’s besties was Christopher Robin. This fictional character was modeled after his own son, Christopher Robin Milne.
The book, Winnie the Pooh was extremely popular in the late 1920’s. Winnie rose in the popularity polls once the trade rights were sold by Milne to Slesinger for a mere $1000. In the first year, sales soared to $50 million. Slesinger marketed Pooh for over 30 years.
Slesinger went on to develop the characters. A. A. Milne’s widow licensed Disney for motion picture rights in 1961 and the rest is history.
