We all want a clean home but do not always want to use harsh cleaning products. If you have young children in your home, you need to be even more cautious of what cleaning products you are using. Eco-friendly products contain no toxins, and are often products that you can use in a variety of different ways in your home. The last thing you want is your family ingesting bleach, Ajax, Lysol or any other product. Therefore, if you use these products, make sure that they are always in a secure cupboard.
I’ve put together a list of eco-friendly cleaning products that will keep your house shining and your family safe.
White Vinegar
White Vinegar works great as a multi-purpose cleaner and it is 100% eco-friendly! Fill up a spray bottle with about 1/4 vinegar and 3/4 tap water. I personally like to add about a teaspoon of fresh lemon or orange juice. I find that it gives the vinegar a nice fresh scent. You can use vinegar as a sanitizer, degreaser, window cleaner and it even helps keep mold away! If you have tough stains on your counters or floor let the solution sit for about five minutes, then use an old toothbrush to scrub. This is just one eco-friendly product that will work wonders on cleaning surfaces around your home.
Baking Soda
I really can not think of a product that has more uses than baking soda. For those tough cleaning jobs, baking soda will be your best friend. I find that sprinkling some baking soda around the toilet bowl, letting it sit for about ten minutes, then spraying vinegar over it helps get rid of any staining and fights odors.
Lemons
Yes, even lemons can help you get your house nice and clean. Rubbing a lemon over soap scum in the bathroom works wonders! You can use lemon to clean your microwave, polish metal and keep your garbage disposal smelling good.
Cinnamon and Vanilla
Do you want to get your house smelling good without using an air freshener? Put about two cups of water in a saucepan, add one cinnamon stick and two drops of vanilla. Let the ingredients simmer on your stove and your whole house will smell like cinnamon vanilla. You can replace the cinnamon with orange slices to get a completely different smell. Make sure to check the water level in your saucepan periodically.
Do you use store bought cleaners and air fresheners or do you make your own?
Great post. Thanks for sharing. I never knew cinnamon and vanilla could be used as a cleaner. I will have to check it out as I love being eco friendly when cleaning.
Great tips! And these are all inexpensive and always available in the house 🙂
