Penaten Medicated Cream has been around for many years, I for one, used it on my kids when they were babies. In fact, I applied it after every diaper change whether they had a diaper rash or not. One of the more prominent ingredients is zinc oxide, which relieves red, irritated skin. It also acts as a protective barrier against wetness, and once my kids were out of the diaper stage, I found that Penaten Medicated Cream soothes more than just baby’s bottoms. It can alleviate symptoms of all sorts of skin rashes, including eczema, which can be very annoying for those who suffer from this condition. It is also good for scalds and sunburns as well.
When I needed to apply it to the face because of a sunburn or skin irritation, I must admit that I mixed it with a little Vaseline before applying it so that it would not be as hard to remove.
As compared to the other types of skin/diaper creams, Penaten Medicated Cream really sticks, literally and figuratively. Other brands seem to be liquid based and absorb rather quickly into the diaper and skin, and therefore not really providing a protective barrier. We had a name for Penaten and petroleum jelly, aka Vaseline in our house, when the kids were babies, and it was paste.
A funny thing happened to me with my youngest one and Penaten Medicated Cream. When she was an infant, she was very, let’s say creative. Not knowing that Mom was almost totally deaf in one ear, which is even worse when you are sleeping on your good ear. Well, one night I just happened to fall asleep and could not hear anything. Not even the sound of little feet prancing over to get the Penaten.
Well, when I awoke, I had a marvelous new do… she has gotten a hold of the scissors, and chopped off my hair at the front, which was the same length of my hair. It was stubble. And a funny taste in my mouth, yep, you guessed it…she decided to stick some Penaten Medicated Cream in my mouth. That was the beginning of her creative ways, I guess.
There were some other creative displays that also took place, but I can sit back and fondly remember the time I not only wore Penaten Medicated Cream, but tasted it as well.
