As a new mom, you probably know all of the benefits that go along with breastfeeding. One of the biggest questions that new moms have is when their breast milk will start to come in. during the first few days after you give birth, your breasts will have colostrum. Colostrum is produced by your body during the first few months of your pregnancy. Your natural breast milk will begin to flow usually around three to five days after you give birth.

Another common concern regarding breastfeeding for new moms is that they may have a friend or family member that gave up on breastfeeding. This is not uncommon and there are several reasons for this. These reasons include having a hard time in the beginning with no support system in place, sore nipples, thinking the baby isn’t getting sufficient milk and their baby having problems sucking correctly. New moms will often wonder how often they are supposed to nurse. The fact is that the more you nurse, the more milk that your body will produce. For the most part, you will find yourself nursing about 8-12 times each day. There is no set schedule when it comes to breastfeeding. You will know when your baby wants to nurse. They will cry or become fussy, will have increased alertness or will start mouthing around for your nipple.

If you need to pump some breast milk for your baby, you may wonder how much you will need to pump. If your baby is under a month old, they will usually drink about 2-3 ounces of breast milk eight times a day. From one month to six months of age, your baby will consume about 26-28 ounces of milk about six to eight times a day.
