Tell A Story Day
Tell A Story Day is April 27th. Our forefathers were famous for story telling. In ancient times, and even to this day is some cultures, community members are known for their expertise in this foray. This is particularly true in the native community.
As you can see from this image, a legacy is born. It tells of how a Native American clan spent its season. It shows how two clans fought against each other for land, valuables, or power. Notice the long rifles in the image, these were often given to the Native people from European settlers in a trade for provisions and furs.
It also appears that there is a European or white settler holding what seems to be a device that will cause harm to the native person. Perhaps there was a raid in which these two people fought. I am sure that somewhere, some moment in time, this story was told by both the natives and whites to their descendants.
Story telling is very important in some cultures and should be part of your culture as well. Informing young children about their ancestors through this method will give them a chance to learn about their heritage and the beliefs of relatives that may have passed before they were born.
What is the funniest story that was told to you about one of your ancestors?
