Straw Hat Day
May 15th is Straw Hat Day. Today is Straw Hat Day. Straw hats have lost their popularity in recent years. They were all the rage in the early part of the 20th century. During the summer months, men would meet their girlfriends and take them for a stroll along the boardwalk or to the county fair or carnival. These hats were either white or off-white in color and were often plain. However, some were styled with a colored hat band which was situated just above the hat brim.
Straw hats were also made in their natural shade. Not only men wore them. Many women did too. It was believed that your head would stay cooler inside a straw hat. Since then, studies have found that this belief is false. They are not cooler than any other type of hats worn during the summer months. Nonetheless, any type of hat should be worn in the summer months. It will help to protect your head from the sun’s harmful rays and sunstroke.
Straw hats are also great for gardening, fishing, or for any time you are going to be out in the sun for a long time.
