Today, I received a piece of vintage jewelry, a silver plated bracelet from Elsa Mikus, one of the designers and partners in a business called Tempest in a Teapot.
The business itself, is the creation of Elsa Mikus and Barbara Ryan, lifelong friends who were soon to face retirement. Elsa has always been involved in artistic endeavors and decided to ask Barbara if she would like to learn a craft that uses recycled silver plated teapots and silverware. So, in 2001, Tempest in a Teapot was born.
They took their show on the road, selling silver plated wind chimes that they expertly handcrafted. These pieces came from local New Jersey flea markets and auctions and even blossomed out to create pieces for private clients out of family heirlooms.
After much success, another idea came to mind. They decided to launch a new line, which was their Silver Flat Wear.
Suddenly, there was jewelry of all sorts, that consisted of necklaces, bracelets, and rings made from the silver flatware.
Some pieces contain copper, antique buttons, brass or handmade glass.
As for the bracelet I received… it is amazingly beautiful.
It is a silver plated bracelet that has been made from a fork or spoon, I think, anyway! It is smooth and shiny and has a floral pattern of roses around the piece that lays on top of your wrist. There is also a rose on each side, a little further down the bracelet.
The bracelet is held together with jump rings as well as a handmade sliver link. A secure magnetic clasp holds the bracelet firm to your wrist.
The amazing thing about all of the pieces that are handcrafted by Elsa and Barbara is that not only are they beautiful and functional, one can only wonder who once used these pieces to dine with.
Did the pieces come from someone rich and famous? Were they heirlooms that were passed down for generations, until someone thought that they were worthless pieces of junk?
Although this is not a pic of the actual bracelet I received, I am sharing some of the wonderful pieces that have been made by Elsa and Barbara, also known as Tempest in a Teapot.
Pieces similar to these ones as well as their windchimes and other jewelry adorn the households of many people in the US, Switzerland, Europe, Australia and Canada.
Here is a couple of samples of Tempest in a Teapot Wind Chimes.
Now, one of my lucky blog readers will be the recipient of a silver plated bracelet of their own.
They come in various sizes, and if you are the winner of this product giveaway as determined by Rafflecopter, please advise Elsa as to which size you will need.
The piece that you are sent will be beautiful, but at Elsa’s discretion, of course.

*Disclaimer*- I received a bracelet from Tempest in a Teapot for review purposes. I was not obligated to write a positive review and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
All of the bracelets are beautiful, but I think the one that struck my fancy was “Lovely Lady.” I definitely have this page bookmarked!!!!
“First Love” caught my eye the longest. They are all nicely crafted. What a neat idea!
I really like the wind chimes. 🙂
