More and more people are eating healthier nowadays by eating a wide range of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. This has lowered their risk of heart attack as well as a myriad of other debilitating diseases. Many people are committing themselves to a healthier approach by making the switch to purchasing only organic foods and saying No to GMO. Although, the cost of organic foods is somewhat higher than conventionally grown food, there are no chemicals, such as pesticides or preservatives used in the growth cycle of organic foods.

Often, genetically modified animals have been given antibiotics and fed animal by products. They have also been given growth hormones in order to speed up their life cycle as well as their body mass. Organic foods are foods that have not been genetically altered. This healthier style of eating has coined the phrase, “Say No to GMO”.

Many people also have made the switch to non-GMO for their pets as well.

The reason for this is mainly due to health reasons as it is a well known fact that some animals that have been raised on GM crops tend to develop various illnesses and diseases. So there is a fear of contamination of our food source, such as crops and livestock by fields that have been sprayed with pesticides, and the soil contaminated by chemicals.

Many people are now switching their diets to include foods that are not GM and there are some foods that you should avoid. In fact, tonnes of sweet corn has been known to be infused with GMO  in the US. Soy as well as cotton, papaya, rice, tomatoes, rapeseed, potatoes, peas and some dairy.

Some dairy herds have been genetically altered with a growth hormone to aid in the quantity of the milk that they produce. One must really wonder if the milk they are drinking has been genetically modified or not. Studies have shown that approximately 22% of cows in the US have been treated with this bovine growth hormone. This hormone has a high level of IGF-1, an increase in this same hormone in humans can lead to colon and breast cancer.

Isn’t technology grand? Yes, for the most part. But genetically modifying our foods that we eat have a monumental effect on our health.
