Nutty Fudge Day
May 12th is Nutty Fudge Day. Fudge has been around for a long time. In fact, it was mentioned in a letter back in 1886, in America. Perhaps it was a sweet treat before then, but the first reference to it that can be validated in that letter.
When it comes to making homemade fudge, in Europe on three ingredients are used, but in America there is usually four. Americans are known to be lovers of chocolate. They even add it into the pan when making it.
Walnuts are usually the nut of choice to add into the sugary concoction as it is being stirred. One thing about making this treat, it usually is a make or break situation. Too hot and you have caramel, too cold and you have a mess.
Timing is also important, the sugar has to be cooked to the right consistency. Some people make this sweet confection for special holidays, such as Valentines Day or Christmas.
I have a couple of cans of condensed milk and some walnuts, maybe I will busy and whip up some today.
