New England Fall Foliage Day Trips

If you live near the England area or just want to take a visit, you definitely want to go during fall foliage season. Not only do the New England states offer stunning autumn scenery but they also offer festivals and other sights and attractions to take in as well. Here are some great New England fall foliage day trips.

Connecticut- Old Lyme to Hadlyme– Old Lyme is an historic town with a Main Street that has buildings dating back to the 1700’s. Old Lyme has so much to offer like restaurants, strip malls and quaint shops. The drive from Old Lyme is beautiful, scenic and picturesque. Hadlyme is a town with some of the most gorgeous foliage you will see anywhere. The best spot in Hadlyme for foliage viewing: Ferry Road.

Maine- Ellsworth to Penobscot Bay/Castine– The end of this drive is one you will remember for a long time to come. Castine is the location of the Maine Maritime Academy. In fact, the route is filled with all kinds of fishing villages, featuring photographic opportunities and fresh sea air.

Massachusetts- Sturbridge to Petersham– Sturbridge Village features building that were hauled in from all over New England. It replicates how life was back in the 1800’s. Leaving the village, you will travel through Fiskdale to Petershman. The best spots for foliage viewing in Petersham: Harvard Pond and Harvard Forest.

New Hampshire- Hanover to Dorchester– The town of Hanover is home to Dartmouth College and is known as a college town, but it also has an old feel to it. Dorchester is a town that is more modern, but it still has an old feel to it. This drive features picturesque forests with fall colors at their best.

Rhode Island- North Kingston to Hopkins Hollow– This day trip will take you along several areas of fall foliage views. It also takes you through some great towns that feature a ton of history.

Vermont- Stowe to Jeffersonville– Getting from Stowe to Jeffersonville will take you along the famous Smugglers’ Notch. Starting in Stowe, travel along Route 108, provides you with great views of the fall colors until you reach Jeffersonville.
