Mario Day
March 10th is Mario Day. How many of us are going to dress up as this character in order to celebrate! Even though I was around and dabbling in gaming platforms long before Mario was even a thought, I think it is the best video game platform that was ever created. My first experience with this character was when I bought a Nintendo Entertainment System and Donkey Kong. A bit of trivia that you may not know about this world famous fictional character and that is that he was originally called Mr. Video by his creator, Shigeru Miyamoto.
This short, Italian plumber dressed in blue overalls and a red shirt has appeared in over 200 video games. I do not think that there is a Mario game that we have not played or owned at one time or another. One of my daughters favorite characters is Princess Peach and one year for Halloween, she went out trick or treating as Princess Peach and a guy friend from school went as Mario. She also went to the Anime Convention dressed as her favorite character. The shoes and dress are still around, I think that outfit (dress and shoes cost us about $350 a few years back. She even has created a Princess Peach head, it is huge out of paper mache. It goes very well with her collection. Browser, Toad, Mario, Luigi, King Kupa, and the rest of the gang are on her walls, curio cabinet, and entertainment stand (that goes the full length of her room).
My kids are hard core gamers, first me introducing them to video gaming systems when they were young. I used to sit and play my games for hours, and I am sure that many older folks have done so as well.
