Symptoms of the infection due not occur immediately but appear 10 to 15 days after being bitten. Yellowing of the skin, seizures, and even death is possible.
Communities around the globe have gotten together to try to eradicate malaria altogether. Teaching communities the importance to drain away any still standing water will eliminate a breeding ground for the female mosquito. Pesticides and mosquito nets are also other deterrents that are used.
Medication can lessen the symptoms if detected early enough. It is a disease that is prominent in tropical areas that are close to the equator. It is thought to be a disease that is rampant in poverty stricken countries. Malaria is a disease that affects many people residing in Africa. It affects the liver and bloodstream and can cause respiratory illnesses and death.
Malaria Day is a day in which this disease is brought into the forefront and community leaders spend time creating awareness and educating their citizens about eradicating this and other diseases that can affect whole communities, villages, and continents, such as AIDS and others.
