May 23rd is Lucky Penny Day. We all know that finding a penny on the ground is considered to be a sign of good luck. The penny has been around for thousands of years, first appearing in 757 A.D. It made it way into Europe several years later, and then to the Americas.
In the United States, the first penny was made in 1793. It was made from copper as this metal was plentiful at the time. At one time, a penny was considered something of value. However, because of today’s standard of living has changed, along with our economy the penny is worthless and in some cases, several countries have stopped minting them and have even stopped accepting them as a form of currency.
How finding a penny become a good luck sign, one never knows. We can only hope that finding one can and will lead to bigger and better things. So when you are out and about, keep your eyes peeled on the ground cause you never know when you will come across one.
If you do, pick it up, and remember the old saying, “Find a penny pick it up and all the day you have good luck!” Your day may become a little more brighter.
