Part of being a good business owners means to look at your competitors. In regards to blogging, your competitors are other blogs that are in the same niche as you are. By taking a look at other blogs, you may learn something new that will benefit you. The benefit may led to blog growth and an increase in revenue.  By taking the time to see what other blogs are doing will help you to formulate a plan that will work. Although,  you want to lead not follow, there are ways you can utilize what works for other bloggers as a means to get creative with your blogging strategy.   • Make a List – The starting point in this evaluation is to list your competitors. Find bloggers that are within your niche, list out their numbers for social media platforms, their subscriber counts and any other data you can gather simply by visiting their site and other channels. See what they have built for a following in the time they have been blogging on that site. Learn their numbers and you can have a starting point in setting your own goals as you work further to learn from your competitors.
  • Analyze Reputation – How often are your competitors responding to their readers, do they have a newsletter setup, and a RSS feed?  Are they pretty active on social media? Research the bloggers in your niche to see how they engage their following as a means to build their own reputation. You see, blogging is all about building the trust of your community, so that people realize you are a professional and quite knowledgeable about your blog niche. When you work to see how your competitors have build their reputation, you can start to build your own by following some of the ways they have worked to build that trust and reputation.
  • Blog Layout/Design – How do your competitors have their blog laid out? Look at how your competitors have their design.  Is it a simple design that gains more SEO because it has fewer thrills and extra code (something that can confuse the robots indexing your blog)? Does the site have an easy way for readers to leave comments and be engaged in the content? Design your site to enable comments as this is a way to be interactive with your blog readers.
  • Make Friends – Blogging is all about community, so start engaging with your competitors. There is absolutely nothing wrong with working to gain a friendship with other bloggers in your niche. When you start a friendship with your competitors, it enables you to have another outlet who can share your content, engage with you and thus, helping to build up your reputation.
  • Get Blog Post Ideas – Last but certainly not least, you can learn what blog topics to write about by studying your competitors. Review what your competitors are writing about for topics to see which ones are getting the most traction. Start piggy backing off of their content topics. Remember not to write word for word what others are writing as that is plagiarism, but you can work the topics in a way that allows you to add more value to the topic.
