Okay, I have to admit something: I am not a big fan of winter. It’s my least favorite season. It’s so cold, wet and icy. The number one downside is that my kids spend more time inside than outside. I have to get creative when it comes to keeping them entertained and happy. Below is a list of things you can do in the winter, that I found have worked great for keeping little ones entertained.
1. Make Snowflakes! This is something my kids can do for hours. They love how they can make so many different kinds of snow flakes. After all, no two snowflakes are alike.
2. Build a Fort. Most kids love to do this. Be prepared for one of the kids to claim it as theirs!
3. Make Snow Ice Cream. We tried it this past winter. It was so simple and yummy.
4. Make a Gingerbread House. I don’t know if the kids like making it or just like eating the goodies that you have to use to make it.
5. Go Driving! Okay, this might be more of my favorite thing then the kids but I still really enjoy it. I love looking at all the Christmas lights that are up. It’s a great bonding experience with the kids too.
6. Have a Picnic. Yep I said that. However we do it winter style. We put a blanket on the front-room floor and eat a lunch picnic.
7. Make Some Goodies. The past few Christmases I have made my own candy baskets for gifts. Last year I let the kid join in on the fun and they had a blast!!
8. Have A Dance Party. All three of my kids love this. I will shut off the T.V. turn up the music and just wiggle, giggle, and dance!
9. Lastly Go Outside. A little cold does not hurt anyone. Let the kids build snowmen, snow forts, and even snow angels.
10. Have a Snowball Fight. When you find that the snow is good enough to hold together, bundle up the kids for a snowball fight! Make sure to make rules beforehand so no one gets hurt!
All of these activities are basically free and extremely fun. If you are like me and dislike winter more than anything the best thing to do is take one day at a time and remember it does not last forever. Spring is just around the corner!
What is your favorite winter activity?
Now come on guys, I would like to see comments that say other things besides hibernate or being a couch potato!
