Innovative Ways to Make Chore Duty Fun

Teaching children about responsibility is something that every parent should teach their child at an early age. Assigning various chores is a good place to start. Remember to assign tasks according to age. Do not expect a three year old to vacuum, take out the trash or do the dishes. The most important thing in starting a child off on chore work is to not overburden them and find fun ways to get children to help with chores. Here are some innovative ideas that you may want to incorporate.

  1. Stickers- Reward them with stickers for completing the task. Go one step beyond in rewarding them. Hide stickers under knick-knacks, on top of bookcases, dressers, and anywhere else that needs to be dusted. Once they have moved the item to dust, they uncover their reward.
  2. Decorate Buckets- Let them decorate a cleaning bucket in their own style. Children’s markers and stickers will help them turn the buckets into works of art.
  3. Reward Sheets- Have a couple of reward sheets posted in the house. When a child completes a chore, have them check it off. Once it has been checked off reward them with a sticker. They most stickers at the end of the week get a larger sticker for a reward or get to choose the movie for family night, etc.
