Teaching children about responsibility is something that every parent should teach their child at an early age. Assigning various chores is a good place to start. Remember to assign tasks according to age. Do not expect a three year old to vacuum, take out the trash or do the dishes. The most important thing in starting a child off on chore work is to not overburden them and find fun ways to get children to help with chores. How to Make Chore Duty Fun
- Stickers- Reward them with stickers for completing the task. Go one step beyond in rewarding them. Hide stickers under knick-knacks, on top of bookcases, dressers, and anywhere else that needs to be dusted. Once they have moved the item to dust, they uncover their reward.
- Decorate Buckets- Let them decorate a cleaning bucket in their own style. Children’s markers and stickers will help them turn the buckets into works of art.
- Reward Sheets- Have a couple of reward sheets posted in the house. When a child completes a chore, have them check it off. Once it has been checked off reward them with a sticker. They most stickers at the end of the week get a larger sticker for a reward or get to choose the movie for family night, etc.
