Let’s face it, all of us have this human characteristic that is known as- to procrastinate or procrastinating…
How to Stop Procrastinating
1. Admit that You Put Things Off– Be the first admit to yourself that you put things off. There will never be a perfect time to do all that needs to be done. It’s easy to look at the project and say, “If I can’t get it done today, I won’t start until tomorrow.” Start with one project.
2. Make a Schedule– It is important that you make a schedule. The project may be too big to finish in one day. Break it up into small projects. Estimate time for completion and check them off as you complete. Before you know it, the project is done.
3. Decide on the Time to Start Working on Projects– Decide what time of day is best for you. Are you an early riser and get things done in the morning, or do you get all your energy later in the day? If you have children at home, can you work when they are at school or maybe when they are in bed for the night?
4. Get Others Involved– Get others involved in the project. Delegate parts of the project to help it feel smaller. Keep everyone on track and the job will get done quickly.
5. Reward Yourself– Be sure to reward yourself. Need a new pair of shoes? New phone? Or something for the house? New sofa pillows make a change that is inexpensive, but brightens the room. Working for a goal helps keep the project in focus.
6. Be Accountable– Let your friends and family know what you are doing and when results are expected. That is a great motivator. They will ask you how the project is going and you want to say “It’s done”; no humiliation factor.
Do you have a project out there that needs to be done? What strategies are you using to complete it?
