Fun Canadian Facts for Americans
It is easy for Americans to visit Canada as it is either a quick flight or drive across our northern border. There are some fun and interesting things that go on in Canada that you might not know of. Here are a few fun Canadian Facts for Americans heading up there on travel.
- Like Snakes? Head up to Winnipeg to the Narcisse Snake Dens conservation area from mid-April to early May to see the tens of thousands of red-side garter snakes. Thankfully, there is a viewing platform so you can watch from a safe distance.
- Animals Have a Safe Passage. In Banff National Park, in Alberta, there is a million-dollar highway overpass that is used by grizzly and black bears, moose, deer, elk, bighorn sheep, wolves, cougars, and lynx. Soon there will be 38 wildlife underpasses and six overpasses in this province. Ontario is currently building its first bridge too as Canada is a safe haven for large mammals making their annual crossings
- Annual Bathtub Race on Vancouver Island. The last weekend of July sees bathtubs cover a 90-minute course as part of the weekend-long Nanaimo Marine Festival. This race started out in 1967 over a 36-mile course. This is one race worth checking out!
- Santa Claus Time. On behalf of ‘ol St. Nick, thousands of kind-hearted Canadians answer letters to Santa Claus each year. The Canadian Post volunteers have answered more than a million letters in 30 languages, including brail. The postal code for this awesomeness is HOH OHO.
- Famous Canadians. Americans are typically infatuated with celebs, check out the ones that call Canada home: James Cameron, Celine Dion, Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds, Rachel McAdams, Justin Bieber, Michael Buble, Jim Carey, Mike Myers, and William Shatner.
- Geography Facts. Canada is not only the second largest country in the world but the capital city of Ottawa is the second coldest capital in the world. Brrr!
