Fun 4th of July Activities
for the Whole Family
The 4th of July holiday is a time where friends and family get together, enjoy the warm weather and just have fun. Here are some fun 4th of July activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Watch a Parade- Most cities and towns put on a 4th of July parade. You can check the event calendar for your area to find out if and when they are hosting a holiday parade. If there isn’t a parade going on, consider putting together a mini parade in your neighborhood. Have the kids wear clothing that is red, white and blue. They can also carry flags and sing “America the Beautiful” or “The Star Spangled Banner” while marching up the street. Another cool idea is to have kids ride their bicycles around the block. You can have them decorate their bicycles with red, white and blue streamers and balloons.
Engage in Art Projects- Pack up the family and head to your local crafts store and have the kids choose some red, white and blue items that they want to make. They can make BBQ aprons, patriotic headbands, sparkly hats or anything else they choose.
Spend Time Reading- There are so many great books for families to read that revolve around this national holiday. These books include America the Beautiful by Katherine Lee Bates, Apple Pie Fourth of July by Janet S. Wong, The Fourth of July Story by Alice Dalgliesh and Stars and Stripes: The Story of the American Flag by Sarah L. Thomson.
Have a Bonfire and Sing Along- During this holiday many families have a bonfire. You can also include some music that everyone can sing along to. There are so many great patriotic songs including Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen, Surfin USA by The Beach Boys, Kids in America by Kim Wilde and This Land is Your Land by Woody Guthrie.
