Date Nut Bread Day is Dec 22nd. Mmmmm.. Now this is a day that I am really going to enjoy! I love Date and Nut Bread and am going to be making one to have over the Christmas holiday. I have been using one particular recipe of Date and Nut Bread for several years. The recipe is one that is in a Robin Hood Cookbook.
The Origins of Date Nut Bread
Date and Nut Bread is thought to have originated in Scotland. The original recipe contains walnuts, dates and treacle *molasses*. This quick bread was so well received, it eventually made its way to England and other parts of Britain. It eventually made its way to the other corner of the globe. Date and Nut Bread is also eaten in New Zealand and Canada and other countries that were or are still under the dominion of Britain.
I have never made Date and Nut Bread with molasses. I would imagine it tastes just as good. If you feel like making this anytime soon, here is a link to a recipe for Date and Nut Loaf!
MMmmm this looks so good! Thank you for the interesting info!
