Cooking with the Actifry- Some Tips

Share

For those of you who have an Actifry or are thinking about purchasing one, it definitely is a fantastic machine. If you would care to look at previous posts that I made about it, just search through the archives. I purchased the Actifry and wanted to share some tips with all of you.

It is great for homemade chips, of course, without having to cook them in a pot or deep fryer filled with oil. But I have experimented with mine, making different foods in it.

Here is a couple of tips for those that are new owners of the machine;

1. Use smaller pieces of boneless meat when cooking in the actifry. Bones tend to bang against the lid, unless of course you chop the meat in half, right through the bone.
2. When cooking chicken with skin, no oil is needed.
3. If cooking chicken wings and want to have them with a sauce. Make the sauce separate because if the sauce contains sugar, it tends to really make a mess inside the Actifry. I found that making wings or thighs and want a sauce, use another way to warm the sauce and top or dip the chicken in it after it has been removed from the Actifry.
4. Remove the basket and paddle after each use. Food particles tend to get under the paddle and sometimes even in the bottom of the Actifry. Remove the little screen at the back and clean the inside of the Actifry, after the cooking basket has been removed.
5. Food that has breading does not do well in the Actifry.. that is unless you remove the paddle. That’s right! Remove the paddle if you are wanting to cook any type of food that has a crumb coating. This will help the keep the food uniform. Found this out through trial and error with onion rings and breaded fish. But remember that you will have to watch the food a little more closely. It will have to be hand turned.
6. Make sure you measure the amount of food. Lots of fun finding out halfway through setting the food in there, to find out you have added too much.
7. You can cook stuffed peppers or even small cornish hens in the Actifry. Simply remove the paddle and set the food in the Actifry so that it does not overlap. Set timer and cook accordingly.
7. Don’t be afraid of experimenting.
