Now that the brisk northwesterly winds are blowing, it is time to start cooking those meals that warm your insides. Today’s dinner took a little more time than usual to prepare and although I have not had any yet, it sure smelled good. I managed to get a large beef rump roast on sale for $1.97 a pound. This came to about 12 dollars and I cut it into two pieces. Of course, one was placed in an oven bag along with some bay leaves, Worchestershire sauce, salt, pepper, italian seasoning, some basil, chopped onion, garlic powder, small potatoes, large potatoes (sliced into quarters) as well as some sweet potatoes and baby carrots. A little oil was added, along with 1 cup of water. Oh, I did add a little meat tenderizer! My bad! Came to about 25 dollars total which is not bad for a family dinner for two days.
Then I floured the inside of the oven bag tossed in everything and set the oven at 350 for about 2 1/2 hours. Used a slotted spoon and took out the vegetables, then sliced the meat. The meat was still a little pink in the center, so I placed it back in the bag with the juice to continue cooking for a little while. All of it is in containers now and will be dinner for tonight and tomorrow.
Might do up some chili tomorrow for during the week.
