For a fun Halloween project that does not require baking, make witches’ broomsticks out of pretzels, chocolate, and thin sheets of caramel. Children will love helping, and everyone will love eating these tasty treats! Display these Chocolate Caramel Broomsticks in a Halloween mug, or use them to decorate a dessert.
Caramel wraps are usually found in the produce section near the apples. There are five wraps in a package, but you will only need 2 for these broomsticks. Store them in an airtight container or in the refrigerator.
Chocolate Caramel Broomsticks
Makes 16 large broomsticks or 32 small broomsticks
8 large pretzel rods or 32 small stick pretzels (look for a brand with slightly larger sticks)
2 sheets of caramel apple wraps
6 ounces dark chocolate (chips are fine)
Large Broomstick
Instructions:
1. With a sharp scissors, cut each wrap into fourths.
2. Cut each strip into a thin fringe, being careful not to cut through the top edge. If your scissors get sticky, wash and dry them well. Cut each fringed strip in half to make 2 shorter pieces.
3. Break or cut each pretzel rod in half.
4. Begin wrapping the fringed caramel around the bottom of a pretzel, near the broken end, taking care not to stretch the caramel. Wind slightly upward. Press the top snugly against the pretzel and set on a baking sheet covered in waxed paper or parchment. Repeat until all of the pretzels have caramel brooms.
5. Heat chocolate in a jar or mug in the microwave. Begin with 30 seconds, stir, and then continue to melt at 15 second increments, stirring each time until completely melted.
6. Tilt and roll the chocolate around the inside edge of the jar. Holding each broomstick by the top of the caramel broom, roll it around the inside edge of the jar, covering the pretzel with chocolate. Lay broomstick on waxed paper.
7. When all of the brooms are dipped, refrigerate them for a few minutes to set the chocolate. Remove from refrigerator and let stand at room
temperature for 5 minutes to allow caramel to warm back up, and then “fluff” the caramel brooms attractively.

Repeat.
