Candy Cane- What Color Are Your Stripes
Candy Cane Day is Dec 26th. This sweet, refreshing holiday favorite began to appear in the mid 19th century. It really began to take off in the early 20th century when the familiar “J” shape was perfected. People began using them as a Christmas tree decoration. Candy canes are usually red and white and peppermint flavored, but there are nearly endless variants in flavor and color.
It is believed that candy canes are a symbol of festivities. Some people say that the white symbolizes purity and the red represents the blood of Jesus. It is thought to have been made by an candy maker from Indiana in 1847.
