RVs or motorhomes dot the roadways throughout the Southwest as people travel from all over the world to see the unique desert climate. The majority of visitors travel to the Southwest from October through May. During this popular season, RV Parks and National Parks are full with travelers. Here are the best RV destinations in the Southwest for you to visit and a little something to do in each area.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Not only is Las Vegas home to The Strip and all night gambling, but it is also home to a large number of RVs during the winter. Some hotels have space in their parking lots for RV’s and charge a nominal fee. Quite a few of them have full RV hookups, thus making it a win-win situation. Lake Mead is located just 45 minutes south of Las Vegas. It is fed by the Colorado River. Here you can camp overnight at a quite different National Parks that have full services and then go fishing, boating, or hiking in this beautiful setting.
Tucson, Arizona
To experience the Southwest, head to Tucson, Arizona, which is a little big town. The sunsets in Tucson are second to none and it is quite magical to watch the sunset over the mountains. Tucson is just 1.5 hours north of the Arizona’s southern wine country. Which is great, if you decide you want to go on a tasting tour of Arizona’s vineyards. Tucson is also the place to go to have authentic Mexican food. Take a day trip out to Old Tucson to see the movie sets of many old Westerns, including Little House on the Prairie.
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Beautiful red rocks create an enchanting place in Santa Fe. This town is known to be artsy, creative, and a delight for the culinary senses. Drive your RV there and park for a little while when you need some time to hit the reset button. There are quite a few places between Santa Fe and Albuquerque that is perfect for RVs to either pull in for the night or stay for a few weeks. Santa Fe in the winter is also breathtaking beautiful as the snow blankets the desert landscape.
