for Low Income Families
It is that time of year again when parents have to stock up on all those back to school needs like notebooks, markers and pencils. However, for families who are struggling financially, this isn’t an easy task. Here are some places where low income families can get back to school assistance.

The Salvation Army– The Salvation Army is one of the top charities in the United States. Before school starts each year, they partner with retail stores like Target and Walmart, nationwide. These partnerships provide low income families with the school supplies and school clothes that they may not have otherwise been able to afford. Visit www.salvationarmyusa.org.
Operation Homefront– Operation Homefront works with military families. They work in partnership with Dollar Tree stores as part of their Back-to-School Brigade. This program provides backpacks packed with school supplies for kids in need. www.operationhomefront.net.
Kids in Need Foundation– The Kids in Need Foundation partners with school across the United States which have a great number of students who are considered below poverty level. This foundation allows teachers in those schools to provide school supplies to their students. The website features a list of qualifying schools and teachers must apply to the program. www.kinf.org.
Boys & Girls Club of America– The Boys & Girls Club of America hosts a drive called Tools for Back To School. The organization partners with Staples, Michael’s and Disney to obtain school supplies families in need. www.greatfutures.org.
Adopt a Classroom- Adopt a Classroom is a national organization that wants to be sure all kids have what they need to go back to school. Through this organization, teachers can buy what they need for their classrooms and their students. www.adoptaclassroom.org.
There are other places where families in need can look for things like school supplies and clothing for their kids to head back to school. Craigslist has a free category where you can look and Freecycle also lists items folks in your area are giving away, so be sure to check them out.
