Whether you are trying to put together an adventure filled spring break trip for the kids, or looking for a getaway with friends, check out these affordable spring break adventure destinations.
Scuba Dive the Barrier Reefs of Belize
If scuba diving the barrier reefs has always been on the bucket list, but Australia is too far and expensive a destination, Belize is much closer and affordable. Set on the coastal Caribbean waters, Belize has both sea and rainforest to discover, with zip lining, horseback rides to Mayan ruins and sea adventures by kayak being some of the more popular choices. Its location is close enough to find affordable airfare and resorts range from budget to luxury, but the eco-resorts offer the best options for getting as close to nature as possible.
Out Islands of the Bahamas
While the Bahamas are usually a pretty pricey family destination, there are a lot of budget friendly accommodations that make it easier for everyone to visit. The Out Islands make the perfect place to arrange for some adventure, where development has been slow to happen because of the wilder relationship between sea and land. In the Out Islands you’ll find the famous Dean’s Blue Hole, dropping 660 feet into the ocean and fingerling beaches that are only a mile wide. Explore the hard to reach coastline by sailboat or kayak, pulling into hidden coves wherever you may find them.
Explore Acadia National Park
If you are looking for a wide range of adventure, the Acadia National Park offers the chance to do some mountain climbing, hike out to seal dens, bike an island, sail through challenging waters and camp out in some beautiful country. Maine is not crowded during spring break, but it has thawed out enough that you can camp as long as you are prepared, and still be able to do some pretty intense exploring. The island is only accessible via a bridge and even more remote islands, that are still within park boundaries, are open for exploration. If you decide you want more civilised, and drier, accommodations, Mount Desert Island makes the perfect base with its quaint city center that likes to lead a simpler island lifestyle.
