How to Save Some Money on Gear for Babies

  1. Make One Big Purchase- Although you may want new things for baby, many soon to be parents over shop. Take time to think about one big ticket item that you will need and will last the baby more than a couple of months. Once you know the item you want, look for manufacturer’s coupons and discounts from the retailer in order to save some money.
  2. Borrow It- Ask relatives and friends if they have the item that you need. Make sure that the item meets all safety requirements and is fairly brand new and not faulty.
  3. Purchase from Consignment Shops- Look for needed items in consignment shops. You may be able to save a lot of money on baby dressers and change tables by purchasing them from a second hand store.
  4. Set Up a Gift Registry- After you have utilized all of the resources above and are still in need of items, set up a gift registry to a store that has a varied selection of baby items. Choose a variety of products that you need and invite friends and relatives to view what items you need. You may be lucky to find that the additional items that you need will be purchased as a gift before the baby arrives.

Remember to cut corners on unnecessary items whenever possible. You will definitely start feeling the crunch once baby arrives. Extra expenditures and a decrease in pay due to maternity leave will definitely shrink your pocketbook.
