Things to Do for Father’s Day

Many families celebrate Father’s Day by either going out to a fancy restaurant and/or exchanging gifts to commemorate the day. Some celebrate Father’s Day at home, watching movies after having a fun-filled day. How you spend this day depends on several factors. Factors to take into consideration is budget, time, age of the children, and availability. All of the activities are focused on Dad, of course, but also the age of the children.

Father’s of young children often wake up to breakfast in bed, wishes for the day, and various family activities. These activities can be something as simple as a trip to a local area attraction, brunch at a local restaurant, tickets to a sporting event, a day at the movies, or even a special dinner.

Small children love making homemade gift cards, and these are often the most treasured. A Father’s Day card could be a hand-drawn illustration with a special note from the child/children. One popular home made card is the tie card! Not too many dad’s wear ties nowadays, unless they are business executives or have a job that requires them to wear one. However, a lot of Mother’s who have had children who are now grown up, remember the Father’s Day Tie Card. Below are the instructions for you to help your children make a Father’s Day Tie Card.

Father’s Day Tie Card-

Safety Scissors
White drawing paper or white printer paper
Felt or old ties
Colorful, washable markers
Construction paper
Small shirt buttons
Children’s glue
Glue gun and glue sticks (with parent supervision)

Directions-

1. Let the child choose what color construction paper they want to use as the main part of the card. Show them how to fold it in half.

2. Cut out a template of a tie, out of heavy cardboard that they can use as a pattern.

3. Give them a selection of old ties to choose from that won’t be missed.

4. Assist them in cutting the tie material or felt, if need be.

5. Bring out the spare buttons that you have around the house. Let them choose which ones they want to use.

6. Let them use colored markers to draw the lines of the shirt. They can also embellish it with an artistic pattern if they wish to do so.

7. Give them the buttons to glue onto the shirt in the appropriate areas.

8. Have them glue the tie material onto the correct spot on the front of the card.

9. Open the card and glue white paper to the inside of the construction paper.

10. Assist them in writing a nice thought/words/verse in the inside body of the card.

11. Watch the joy on Dad’s face once the children give him the card.
