The Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 – A Review

Share

The Samsung Galaxy Tablet 10.1 is a likeable piece of electronic equipment, however, there are many pros andcons associated with this device. I know cause I went out and got one cause I got tired of sitting at the desktop all the time.

Some of the reasons why I like the tablet is cause it is slim and lightweight and is rather compact. I have a leather cover on mine as well as a plastic film to protect the screen. There also is some free apps avialable on the market, and wihile some are okay, some are not. They either don’t work or don”t work well enough to do the job that you want them to do. The tablet itself comes with a few apps already loaded and you can check out both the free and paid apps that are available at the Google Apps Market. However, in my opinion, they do have a way to go before they can even get close to the programs available over at Apple.

So what exactly does the Samsung Galaxy Tablet do? It permits you to surf the internet from the comfort of your bed or couch, answer emails, research, watch a movie from one of the free sites applications that you download from the market and play some games. The graphics are awesome, however, there seems to be a limit as to what games you can play on it. For example, I downloaded Angry Birds, for free, and my kids love it. I also have managed to sort of get hooked on it myself, and so when I need a break from the endless typing, I play a game or two, or even three. I also managed to download a few word games that I enjoy. However, the flash does not seem to work all of the time. Well, it does for Google market games, but others such as those on Facebook, for example, Words with Friends, it does not load, nor does any other game from Facebook. I got around this by hooking up with some friends for Words with Friends through the website itself. And to make matters worse, when I try to play a game elsewhere, I get a popup stating that I have to install or upgrade my Flash to 10.1 or 11 in order for it to work…. and so, like a maniac, I dig into my settings and check the Flash installment out…. and duh, it is the same Flash required to play the needed games but somehow it still will not work..

And may I also mention……… that in order to utilize any word document program, you have to buy it. Oh yes, they offer a couple of free programs that do next to nothing and I have about three or four word processors on there now. However, they do not work the same way as some of the more popular ones do. So can you imagine what it is like to think that I got it a little easier being able to sit elsewhere other than behind my desktop when I have to proof and edit some documents for a client.. like around 50 that have to be finished within a short time frame. Well, let me tell you… I tried it on the droid..hahaha… Working with docs to go and about 50 files all to be taken care of and sent in a batch back to the client. Well, I tried, I really did..

The end result was that I got an email saying “Why are all these coming at me as singles, please send them again. Fiddlesticks! Here I go again.. back to the desktop, open the files and have to do them all over again. There finally finished, all zipped up and sent as one package. Clients happy, but oh, my aching back. So hopefully, Samsung will come up with a better solution for the newer version.

I really thought that I would also be able to play movies from the tablet on our big screen tv.. well I can I got the hdmi connector too, however, most of the movies that I have or can get are in a format that is not recognized by the droid, so that idea is gone out the window.

What is nice about the tablet is that I can, work on both the desktop and tablet at the same time, which is a plus. Probably will be able to do more with it.. just got to spend a lot of time figuring it out. Oh and did I tell you that when I bought it.. they also wanted to charge me a fee to set it up.. yah right..

Love the versatility of the tablet, however, I imagine soon it will be outdated like my iPod Touch 3 G running OS 3.1 as many of the newer apps are designed for OS 4.0 and beyond and I really do not feel like installing a new OS on it..

My next electronic purchase will be the iPad2..or something else. Love the tablet even though it has both its pros and cons. Now off to play a couple of rounds of Angry Birds.. TWEET TWEET!
