Photos on Instagram? Remove Them Before the 16th of January

For those of you use Instagram for posting images, should be made aware that now Instagram has changed their policy towards their proprietary rights to share your pictures throughout Facebook as ads. In other words, if you happen to have albums of your kids, pets, home, or anything else for that matter that you do not want to be shared on other social media sites, such as Facebook, then you should take them off before January 16, 2013.

Instagram
January 16th is the day that your image may suddenly appear in ads on Facebook or some of your Facebook pics will show up on Instagram. Nothing sneaky about taking the photos of you in your shorts, dipping your toes in the warm, white sand on the beach. Suddenly the same image (somewhat cropped) shows up as an advert for some vacation paradise. And again, they will probably make money from the clicks pertained from these ads..and what about you? Zero, nada, zilch and to use these photos without your permission to their advantage..CLEARLY there is something wrong with this picture!

The new addition to their policy clearly states, that you give Instagram permission to accept payment from businesses or another entity to use your username, likeness, name, photos and any other data that they find relevant. So say you manage to like someones photo of a brand item birthday gift, well then Instagram can use you data to send this informational post for the company that pays them through the Facebook feed and vice versa.

For those of you who are concerned about what content is shared throughout the social media platforms, head over to Instagram and remove any data, photos and the like, quickly and quietly, before January 16th, 2013 rolls around. And if you also have photos of your kids on you Instagram, make sure that you remove those as well, you never know who or what may be lurking and looking from the other side of the computer screen.

This news has been circulating a lot today, so I heard about what Instagram is doing quite a few times now. I’m absolutely appalled by their business practices. Do they think people are really going to keep using their service now? I’m glad that I never did jump on the Instagram bandwagon now.

I just joined instagram to follow my child who begged for an account. Guess I will not be using it for my blog after all

I had no idea about this, either, but I don’t use instagram! I was considering it so now I guess I’ll not bother! Thanks for the heads up! I’m pretty sure they’re going to get in a lot of trouble over this when people realize – even if it is in their new policy it shouldn’t be sneaky about it!

Oh! That just burns me up! I haven’t ever used Instagram but have to admit I was pretty close to where I was going to start and I am so glad I read this!
