Past Fads… Do You Remember These?

Share

Sitting here about to get another Rafflecopter giveaway ready but thought that I would like to connect with some of my blog readers to see if they remember any of these fads. If so, please do leave a comment about a fad that you grew up with and took an active part in.

Toe socks, I remember wearing these bright colored toe socks that were the fad in my younger days. It did not matter what type or color of skirt or shorts you were wearing as long as you had your toe socks on!

Another fad that I remember was in sleep wear, baby dolls, of course, but when it got cold outside, I remember the sleepers for children and youths. In fact, I had about 3 or 4 pair. Really convenient too for those late night trips to the bathroom. Had the trap door at the back, so you could do your business and still be warm 🙂

Another fad that I remember was the white go-go boots and fishnet stockings. In fact, in one of my grade school pictures, I am in black fishnets, white go-go boots and a white blouse with a red ribbon tie and a red vest and skirt. Middle school years seen bell bottoms, hot pants, afro’s, plaids, and downright funky abstracts. I remember cutting up part of my Mom’s old fur coat to sew onto my blue jeans for style and the hemp/twine macrame belts that were beaded and dropped at the side of our waists. We were very eco-friendly back in those days, everything we outgrew was passed onto relatives or friends, if we could not make something out of it.

Stained and ripped jeans were cut up to make patches, purses, skirts and the like. Other types of material from old remnants were often crocheted into rugs, placemats, coasters, chair throws, bags and many more things. Old doll carriage parts, the bottom half of my doll pram became the part for the soap box derby when I was making go-karts. We often used old tricycle wheels for this as well. We were so creative, we even had brakes!

What was your favorite creation when you were younger? Did you make a go cart, a bag, or be part of a fad during your younger days? And have they come back into style again?
