Name Yourself Day is April 9th. This is the day in which you can change your name but only for the day. So if you were given a name that you did not like, go ahead and change it.
In the olden days and maybe even in some cultures today, a baby was not named until several days or even months after birth. This was due to the fact that the baby might not survive more than a couple of days. This meant that they were nothing more than a soul to which would return immediately to God. It would be an easy passage as there was no need to judge anything about what it has done in life so far.
Some parents to be choose a name for their child while it is still in the womb. This name could be one that has been passed down for generations or one that is totally something different. Some people really do not like their given names and choose to use a nickname instead. Today is the day in which you can use your alternative name instead.
