How to Celebrate the 4th of July
on a Budget
It is hard to believe that the 4th of July is almost upon us. It seems like just yesterday we were digging out from under piles and piles of snow. That is all behind us now for at least 6 months and spring is here. With that comes a new year of holidays and get togethers. One important holiday is the 4th of July. Here are some ways to celebrate this holiday on a budget.
Forget the Fireworks- Yes, fireworks and July 4th go together like peanut butter and jelly. However, doing these on your own is not only dangerous but can be expensive too. If you love fireworks, and who doesn’t, there are ways you can enjoy them without emptying your wallet. Most cities and towns offer a free fireworks show. If your neighbors are putting on their own fireworks show, you can sit right in your backyard and watch the display.
Attend a Community Event- Many areas have celebrations for this holiday. Many cities have a parade while others may have a town celebration at the park in town. These celebrations offer all-day activities that are either free or low-cost.
Enjoy a Movie Marathon- One way to beat the heat is by staying inside and enjoying some patriotic movies with the family. Some great viewing movie ideas include National Treasure, Top Gun, Saving Private Ryan and Independence Day.
Host a Patriotic Block Party- Forget the traditional holiday barbecue and host a block party in your neighborhood. Assign each household in the neighborhood a certain food or beverage type like hot dogs, burgers, potato salad or cupcakes. You can also have one house host some fun party games and another house have a craft table where you make holiday crafts. Then, everyone just goes from house to house and celebrates with their neighbors.
Play Patriotic Games- July 4th is for celebrating America’s birthday and what better way to do so than with some patriotic games. You can have a hot dog eating contest or pie eating contest. You can also play fun games like Independence Day Bingo, Pin the Hat on Uncle Sam and Revolutionary War Scavenger Hunt.
