Grilled Sticky Chicken Drumsticks Recipe

We love grabbing a big pack of drumsticks at the grocery store when they go on sale for special events and BBQ times. But our family can be kind of picky and plain every day BBQ sauce just doesn’t cut it. That’s when we like to doctor up these simply chicken drumsticks with our own family secret Sticky Chicken Sauce for Grilled Chicken.

STICKY CHICKEN SAUCE:
1 medium onion, sliced and chopped fine
4 cloves minced garlic
1 cup Heinz Ketchup (our family is very particular about using this brand of ketchup in this sauce)
2 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
¼ cup Brown Sugar
Salt & Pepper to Taste

Rinse and pat dry drumsticks. Place in large stock pan and boil for 25-30 minutes or until cooked through. Remove from pan and sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper. Dip each drumstick into sticky chicken sauce and place on already heated grill for 3-4 minutes on each side or just until a nice char/grill mark appears. May boil remaining sauce for 3-4 minutes and serve on the side for extra dipping as needed.
I prefer to pre-cook my bone in chicken to ensure food safety. It also helps the chicken from becoming too dry after staying on the grill for a long time. And with a sauce that is super sweet like this one, grills can often burn fast and leave you with char on the outside and raw on the inside. You may substitute chicken breast, wings, thighs or even pork ribs with this awesome sauce.

Some additional side dishes that go wonderful with this grilled sticky chicken drumsticks is baked beans, homemade potato salad, cheddar broccoli rice, and a green salad. Choose one or two of the above mentioned sides, along with a green salad, and some fresh dinner rolls to complete the meal.

Iced tea or even a homemade smoothie will help to wash it down. Enjoy!
