Fresh Fruit and Veggies Are Not Only for Humans

Did you know that you can help to promote good health in your pets by giving them treats that have not been genetically modified? That’s right, it is perfectly safe and often healthier to give or make treats for your cat or dog that you have on hand.

Let’s take a look at a dog’s diet for instance, it generally consists of canned meat products, and dry food, each which may or may not contain certain by products that have been genetically modified or have had certain certain chemicals added to them as a preservative. And the treats are generally packaged stuff that have had chemicals added to them as well.

Did you know that you can give your beloved pooch, a healthy boost by feeding him or her some fresh fruits and vegetables, periodically. Mind you, there are certain fruits that you must avoid, such as grapes, raisins, peaches, plums and persimmons. Anything that is seedy or contains seeds as it may lead to kidney (renal) failure.

But, it is perfectly safe to feed Fido or Princess, some freshly washed, cut and peeled; apples, pears, raspberries, strawberries, bananas, apricots, cranberries, and blueberries. However, stay away from the citrus fruits and tomatoes. And if you are feeding Fido an apple treat make sure that it has been well cored as the seeds contain arsenic.

And Fido does certainly love vegetables! Carrots, spinach, lettuce, zucchini, beets, cucumbers, peas and many other veggies are perfectly safe. It is just a matter of given them it in moderation. Remember these are a treat and not meant to fill their stomachs. They are omnivores and need meat as well.

Have you ever given you dog fruit and vegetables as a treat and if so, what was their favorite?

try a small piece of carrot, fresh or steamed, no additives
. I do know that when I was a kid, the food that we fed our dog, contained meat, peas, carrots and gravy. Not sure if there were potatoes in it, but remember him wolfing it down.

We occasionally give our dog some banana. She usually won’t touch any other fruit or vegetable, unless it has dropped with some sauce on it, lol.
