Celebrating Valentine’s Day When You Are Single

So it’s Valentine’s Day and you’re single right? You think it’s the absolute end of the world since you have to endure all the commercials on TV about chocolates, jewelry and flowers. Well, guess what? Being single on the biggest holiday for lovers really isn’t the end of the world. There are so many things you can do to celebrate Valentine’s Day as a single entity.

Celebrating Valentine's Day When You Are Single

Send yourself flowers- While this may sound a bit crazy but why not send yourself some flowers? If you don’t want to have flowers sent to your work, then just have them sent to your home. There is nothing better than a bouquet of sunshine in the middle of a cold and miserable February.

Boycott the lovers’ holiday- No, you are not actually boycotting the holiday itself. Form a group of single people called something like “Single by Choice” or “Happy to be Single” and hold a meeting on Valentine’s Day. As a group, you can talk about why you are single and your past relationships. Hey, you never know but you may even meet that someone special at the meeting.

Do something nice for someone you don’t know- You have lots of love to give so why not share it with a stranger? This is something that is all called paying it forward or acts of kindness. You can buy a cup of coffee for the person behind you at the coffee shop or bake some cookies for your elderly neighbor.

Do something nice for someone you do know- Make sure those people that are important in your life know it. These people may include family members, close friends or co-workers. Show them what their love means to you by doing nice gestures such as calling your grandmother you haven’t talked to in a couple weeks or sending an email to your best friend just to tell her you love and appreciate her.

Pamper yourself- You don’t need someone to pamper you on Valentine’s Day. You are pretty capable of treating yourself to something special. You can head to the spa for a massage or to the salon for a manicure.

Do what you usually do- If you don’t want to do something different just because it is Valentine’s Day, then there is nothing that says you have to. So, head to work like you normally do and then head home for dinner and a movie.
