Venus, the Two-Faced Cat- Strange Animal Oddities

Share

We all know that throughout civilization there has been many animal oddities. These oddities can be attributed to a lack of, or overabundance for that matter of certain chromosomes within the animal embryo. This past week I heard about Venus, the two-faced cat. Her oddity is that she appears to have two faces. This in fact, has gone viral on the internet and some people thought that this animal oddity was the work of Photoshop. Apparently not! Venus was featured on The Today Show and is indeed a two-faced cat.

She has two distinct face colors and two different eye colors. She is a Chimera cat and one side of her face is black with a green eye and the other half is orange tabby with a blue eye. She has white neck markings, a bit of orange and her limbs appear to be a dominate black and white tabby mixture. The coloring on her back appears to be a dominate black with orange throughout. Her tail appears to be black.

When I first heard of this I thought it was a gimmick as well. That is until I seen the pictures. As you can see for yourself, the coloring is quite odd indeed! But such a beauty! Must have been a genetic defect or a chromosomal imbalance that occurred which resulted in Venus’ markings and eye color difference. She is very lucky that it was only the markings and the eye color difference and not polycephaly, which means “two-headed”. For more information on Polycephaly throughout history, click here.

Her owner assures everyone that in spite of her oddities, Venus, the two-faced cat is quite sweet! And by looking at her pictures, she appears to be quite a happy camper. Her appearance does not show any signs of any distress due to her disposition.

Really neat! I’ve seen a few like that now. It is so strange how the line goes exactly half way down their face.
